Moderate-level resistance to glycopeptide LY333328 mediated by genes of the vanA and vanB clusters in enterococci.
Three of five natural plasmids carrying a wild-type vanA gene cluster did not confer LY333328 glycopeptide resistance on Enterococcus faecalis JH2-2 (MIC = 2 microg/ml). The two remaining plasmids conferred resistance to the drug (MIC, 8 microg/ml). The vanB gene cluster did not confer resistance to LY333328, since this antibiotic was not an inducer. Mutations in the vanS(B) sensor gene that al...
متن کاملGlycopeptide resistance in enterococci.
The selective pressure resulting from the extensive use of antibiotics over the last 50 years has led to the emergence of bacterial resistance and to the dissemination of resistance genes among pathogenic microorganisms. Consequently, we are now at serious risk of suffering intractable, life-threatening infections. The progressive emergence and rapid dissemination of resistance to glycopeptides...
متن کاملDetection of both vanA & vanB genes in vanA phenotypes of Enterococci by Taq Man RT-PCR
Twenty seven isolates of vancomycin resistant Enterococci based on the disk diffusion and E- test have been screened; being found eight (0.3%) clinical isolates of vanA & vanB through Taq Man Real Time PCR assay. This study shows the presence of both vanA & vanB genotypes in vanA phenotypes clinical isolates in the three hospitals in Iran.
متن کاملTransferable, plasmid-mediated vanB-type glycopeptide resistance in Enterococcus faecium.
An approximately 60-kb transferable, vanB-carrying plasmid has been identified in a clinical Enterococcus faecium strain. A similar plasmid has been observed in an unrelated E. faecium strain, suggesting that plasmid transfer of vanB operons occurs in nature and plays a role in the dissemination of VanB-type resistance among strains of E. faecium.
متن کاملVariation in structure and location of VanA glycopeptide resistance elements among enterococci from a single patient.
Forty-six VanA glycopeptide-resistant enterococci (GRE) from a single patient were investigated for variation in structure and location of VanA resistance elements. Together with identification to species level and pulsed-field gel electrophoresis, these data divided the GRE into 10 groups and subgroups. Combining data in this manner appears helpful when investigating the epidemiology of GRE.
